D A OLIVA/07/21/2021

Introduction

  A. From Genesis 6:1-8 we shall discuss three important lessons

Three passages will be used as guidelines

   1. John 8:32 ( Know the Truth)

   2. Revelation 22:18-19 ( Don't add to or take away from Gods'words)

   3. Deuteronomy 29:29 ( Secret things belong to God)

  B. The approach will be as follows

   1. Explain " the sons of God" and the " daughters of men."

   2. The Nephilim- their share/ part in the story/ lesson

   3. Why was God grieved over man that He decided to " wipe him out on earth!"

Discussion

 A. Genesis 6:1 says " that men multiplied on earth and bore daughters."

  1. The " sons of God saw the beautiful daughters of men and took wives from among them!"

  2. Sons of God were descendants of Adam, Seth and Enoch " who walked with God," Genesis 5:24; Luke 3:28

  3. They were not fallen angels or space aliens for angels do not marry

  4. Daughters of men were descendants of Cain, Genesis 4:16-24

  5. Mistake: sons of God marrying the daughters of men believed to be " unrighteous."

  6. Example of Israel marrying Moabite women who led them to idolatry, Numbers 25

 7. Sons of God gave up their godly standards leading to corruption and judgment on whole human race

Lesson One: Sin begins With A Compromise

  1. Satan uses marriages as areas of seducing God's people

  2. They sacrificed their integrity, not perfection but right relationship with God

Lesson Two: Sin goes on to Corruption

  1. As population grew, sin increased also, Mark 7:20-23; Genesis 8:21

  2. God shortened man's life up to 120 years, Genesis 6:3

 3. Nephilim were " giants" ( From Greek and Latin " gigantes) believed to be the union of sons of God and daughters of men

 4. There were still " giants" in Caleb's about 500 years later, Numbers 13:30-33

Third Lesson: Sin Ends in Condemnation

  1. Genesis 6:3 says that God was grieved for man had become sinful

  2. Children and animals had to die also ( collateral damage)

  2. He decided to erase man from the face of the earth even though He was not happy at the death of men, I Samuel 15:11, 29 and Ezekiel 33:11

Conclusion

  A. Respond to God's grace now- How?

  1. Noah found favor in God's sight although he was not perfect, Genesis 9:21

  2. Today, God extends His grace to all men, John 3:16 and Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 5:20

  B. Now, He commands all men to repent, Acts 17:30-31

  1. He is inviting everyone to come to Christ, Matthew 11:28-30

  2. Now is the day of salvation, 2 Corinthians 6:2

  C. Nota Buena: I Corinthians 4:6 (1) Do not go beyond what is written)

   2. Refuse myths and fables, I Timothy 4:7 and 2 Timothy 4:4 but follow the Truth
