​Discussion:
1. On this occasion John introduced 2 of his disciples to Jesus.
2. As he did so, John identified Jesus as "the Lamb of God."
3. These 2 men followed Jesus and talked with Him.
4. (vs.38b) They asked the Lord, "where dwellest thou?"
5. After spending that day with Jesus, they were convinced that He is "the Christ."
6. Our lesson is based on the question that these men asked the Lord -- "where does Jesus dwell?"
Discussion:
I. ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES, JESUS DWELLS AT THE FATHER'S RIGHT HAND
A. Let us first consider an Old Testament prophecy in Psalm 110:1 -- David prophesied that "his Lord"
would be seated at "the Lord's" right hand.
1. Jesus pointed out in Matthew 22:41-46 that David wrote about Him.
2. Peter also showed in Acts 2:32-35 that David wrote about Jesus.
B. During His trials Jesus indicated that He would sit "on the right hand of power."
1. Jesus made this statement during His trial before Caiaphas the high priest (Matthew 26:62-64).
2. Jesus also made this statement during His trial before the Jewish council (Luke 22:66-69).
C. Jesus is presently at the Father's right hand.
1. When He ascended to heaven after His resurrection Jesus "sat on the right hand of God" (Mark 16:19).
2. Stephen saw Jesus "standing on the right hand of God" (Acts 7:54-60).
3. Peter showed in 1 Peter 3:21-22 that Jesus "is on the right hand of God."
II. AT THE FATHER'S RIGHT HAND JESUS FULFILLS A NUMBER OF IMPORTANT ROLES
A. Jesus "intercedes" on our behalf (Romans 8:34).
1. Intercede: to plead or make a petition on behalf of someone else
2. To illustrate, see Romans 8:26-27.
3. When we pray, we pray to the Father through Christ (John 16:23b).
4. As we pray, Christ intercedes in that He pleads on our behalf.
B. Jesus is our "mediator" (1 Timothy 2:5-6).
1. Mediator: a go-between, one who reconciles, one who intervenes between 2 parties to make peace
2. Our mediator with the Father is Christ who gave Himself for us.
C. Jesus is our "advocate" (1 John 2:1-2).
1. Advocate: one who pleads another's case before a judge
2. To help us appreciate the fact that Jesus is our advocate, let us keep in mind that:
a. John wrote to help us avoid sin
b. we do sin (1 John 1:8).
3. When we sin we have a very special advocate with the Father.
a. He is called "the righteous."
b. He is "the propitiation for our sins."
D. Jesus is our "High Priest" (Hebrews 8:1; 10:11-14).
Conclusion:
1. Where does Jesus dwell? [He dwells in heaven at the right hand of God.]
2. At the Father's right hand,:
a. Jesus intercedes on our behalf
b. Jesus is our mediator
c. Jesus is our advocate
d. Jesus is our High Priest.
3. Let us love Him, trust Him, submit to Him, and serve Him faithfully.
4. Those who do so will spend eternity with Him.
